About Total Solar Eclipse 2026
A total solar eclipse crossed western Iceland on 12 August 2026. The Moon completely covered the Sun’s bright disc along the path of totality, allowing the corona, its outer atmosphere, to become visible where skies were clear. Elsewhere in Iceland the eclipse was partial.
Total and annular eclipses are different phenomena: an annular eclipse leaves a bright ring of the Sun visible around the Moon. The 2026 event’s totality path also crossed Greenland and Spain.
