About Eggin í Gleðivík

Eggin í Gleðivík is an outdoor artwork by Sigurður Guðmundsson beside Gleðivík bay in Djúpivogur, East Iceland. Unveiled on 14 August 2009, the installation comprises 34 enlarged egg forms representing 34 bird species that nest in the surrounding area.

The sculptures stand on concrete supports originally used for a landing pipe serving the waterfront processing plant. Their setting connects the town’s industrial history with its birdlife and surrounding natural environment. Each egg refers to a different local nesting species.
