A church rebuilt through local determination
The first church at Búðir was erected in 1703. That earlier turf building deteriorated, and the church was formally discontinued in 1816. Steinunn Sveinsdóttir, a local widow, sought permission to rebuild and financed the wooden church that survives. The Cultural Heritage Agency dates its construction to 1847–1850; the church's own history records its consecration in 1851. Steinunn died in 1854 and is buried in the churchyard.
A compact timber interior
The building measures about 9.2 by 5.3 metres. A square tower with a tall pyramidal roof rises above the western gable. Inside, benches flank a central aisle, with further seating around the chancel and a pulpit on the southern side. Exposed cross-beams and timber panelling make the construction legible. The church was moved to a different position within its churchyard in 1984.
